Confessions of a Library Chick

You would think that teenagers would be the rudest customers when really it’s mostly old, middle-aged people.

The elderly are either adorable or the wrinkly reincarnation of Satan there is no in between

THIS IS SO TRUE

iworkatapubliclibrary:

Upon returning to the building from my lunch break on Friday, I was approached by a young patron and her family.

Girl [holding up a store-bought “Happy Birthday” sheet cake in perfect condition]: “Excuse me, we found this in the parking lot.”

I took it inside, and asked my co-workers if anyone…

The other day a lady in a spaghetti strap top with bra straps showing, and cotton shorts came huffing to the desk asking me for an internet pass.

Me: I don’t have the passes down here. The librarians are upstairs.
Her: Yeah, well, she was really rude to me, and I can’t get a library card because I don’t have anything with my address on it because I don’t have a job and I don’t have any money to pay bills so, I was working on a job application and she won’t give me another pass.
Me: Did you tell her you needed more time because you were doing a job application.
Her: No.
Me: ………
Her: ….
Me: ……………..

Her: Well, I’m from Colorado and everyone is just so rude here and the DMV was rude and the library and rude and I’m just going to move to another state.

PLEASE DO. With all that money and attitude you have. TAKE IT AWAY.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

My library system was on the news today.

I so wish it were for something good :-(

You can never really know a person. All of the employees are heartbroken, infuriated, and unsettled. How can someone who worked there for six years, who I saw every day, for the last time last Monday, and we talked about Big Brother, be so evil?

This whole thing has really made me uncomfortable. I couldn’t sleep the night I heard about it. A coworker today started crying when she found out. We all feel like we have been fooled. Like we are so gullible. She broke my heart when she said, “If my son was with me at work, and went off to help him or something, I would have let him go.” Because it’s true. Most of us would have. And the truth is that that is fucking terrifying.

The world terrifies me.

Yes. My coworkers are entirely too talkative at 8am. Can we just not talk to each other until we open at 9am?
